Every Family Matters: Give Shelter and Hope – Join Our Day of Giving!
Hosted annually by The Salvation Army Austin, Day of Giving is an opportunity to invite the Central Texas community to learn more about & support programs serving families experiencing homelessness in our community.
Family homelessness is a growing, yet hidden, crisis in our community. The Salvation Army Austin’s two family shelters, The Austin Shelter for Women and Children and The Rathgeber Center for Families, are at capacity each night and have an extensive waitlist of 500+ parents and children. Notably, 85% of those sheltered in these facilities are women and children, and The Salvation Army is committed to ensuring their experience with homelessness is brief and non-recurring.

The goal for this year’s event is to raise $1,000,000 to provide shelter, warm meals, and the critical
resources needed to help families experiencing homelessness regain self-sufficiency!
Thousands of low-income families are experiencing homelessness or are on the brink of eviction. They often sleep in their cars, couch surf, or live in other unsafe circumstances in an effort to protect their children from the reality of homelessness. We ask the community to join us in changing the lives of families experiencing homelessness and creating a brighter future for their children. You can be part of the solution to end family homelessness in our community by donating to The Salvation Army Austin on Day of Giving!

Annually we serve more than 10,000 people with shelter, addiction rehabilitation, clothing, meals, holiday support, and direct client assistance. Each year we successfully case manage hundreds from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency. As the largest non-profit provider of family emergency shelter in Central Texas, more than 1,200 unduplicated individuals are sheltered between our two facilities: The Austin Shelter for Women and Children and The Rathgeber Center for Families. Our holistic approach is effective: last year, 87% of families exiting shelter moved to safe housing.
